HOP Assistant Professor Inducted Into Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society

Chris Delcher, Ph.D., research assistant professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Policy, has been inducted into the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Omega, the honorary society of public health.

“Dr. Delcher has shown a long-term commitment to public health from his work in the Virginia Department of Health (prior to the Ph.D. program) and the connections he has made with public health and state officials over the past several years,” said Robert L. Cook, M.D., MPH, professor in the UF Department of Medicine, who served on Delcher’s dissertation committee and nominated him for induction into the honor society. “He is very smart, a great collaborator, and is committed to making a difference in the future.”

According to its website, Delta Omega aims to recognize “the dedication of an individual to increasing the quality of the field, as well as to the protection and advancement of the health of all people.”

“I am honored that Dr. Cook nominated me to join this prestigious group of scientists,” said Delcher, who is conducting innovative, data-driven work with vulnerable populations. “I look forward to strengthening relationships with public health researchers at UF and across the country through this organization.”

To qualify for nomination and selection, graduating students must be in the top 25 percent of their class, nominated by a professor, and voted on by the University of Florida Delta Omega Executive Committee. No more than 10 percent of those students may be inducted, and nominees must demonstrate qualities of leadership in the field of public health. Delcher will join the ranks of more than 15,000 members in more than 80 chapters around the world, comprised of the top leaders in the global public health community.
