Biomedical Informatics Expert Publishes Editorial on the Future of Big Data

Bill Hogan, M.D., M.S., professor of health outcomes and policy and director of biomedical informatics at the UF CTSI, had an editorial published in the November issue of For the Record, a national print magazine dedicated to the medical coding, HIT, and eHealth industries. In the editorial, Hogan examines the future of big data, providing some recommendations for how to ensure that the movement is about making data better, not just bigger. For instance, Hogan suggests that policies should be put in place to ensure standardization and increased specificity of medical record data. In addition, Hogan cites the need for health care policy changes that reward quality over quantity of care. Read the full editorial here.
